Missing 76-Year-Old Singaporean With Mild Dementia Located in Kuala Lumpur After Eight Days

SINGAPORE/KUALA LUMPUR – A 76-year-old Singaporean man reported missing in Kuala Lumpur has been found after eight days, ending an anxious search that captured attention across Malaysia and Singapore.

Halim Yunos, who is said to have mild dementia, was last seen at approximately 10.30pm on February 7 at Anggun Residences in the Chow Kit area. CCTV footage later showed him leaving the premises at around 1am.

After failing to reach him, family members lodged a missing persons report on February 8. The case quickly gained traction online as relatives appealed for public assistance through social media platforms.

Confirmation of his safe recovery came via an Instagram post by his son-in-law on February 15. Authorities have yet to release further information regarding the circumstances of his discovery.

Public Mobilisation and Cross-Border Attention

The disappearance sparked widespread concern, prompting public figures to amplify the appeal. Singapore-based actor Aaron Aziz and Malaysian social activist Azhan Adnan shared the search notice, significantly expanding its visibility.

The strong online response demonstrated the power of digital networks in mobilising support during missing persons cases.

Ongoing Police Follow-Up

Dang Wangi police chief Sazalee Adam had earlier confirmed that police received the report on February 8 and initiated investigations.

While details surrounding Halim’s recovery remain limited, the case highlights the vulnerability of elderly individuals with cognitive conditions when travelling, and underscores the importance of swift reporting and coordinated action.

After more than a week of uncertainty, the news of Halim’s safe return offers relief to his family and serves as a reminder of the collective role communities can play in resolving missing persons cases.
