Marelli-Motherson Strengthens India Presence with New Automotive Lighting Plant

SAITAMA, Feb 23 — Global automotive technology supplier Marelli, in collaboration with joint venture partner Motherson, has inaugurated a new automotive lighting production facility in Sanand, Gujarat, further expanding its operations in India.

The new plant represents a significant milestone for Marelli Motherson Lighting India (MMLI), supporting the growing demand from the country’s expanding passenger vehicle segment.

Marelli Lighting President Frank Huber said the facility will enable the company to deliver advanced lighting technologies by combining global innovation with local manufacturing expertise.

He added that the joint venture, established in 2008, continues to benefit from Marelli’s technological leadership and Motherson’s strong operational presence and customer relationships in India.

Motherson Vice Chairman Laksh Vaaman Sehgal said the new plant reflects the company’s long-term commitment to innovation and its focus on providing next-generation automotive lighting solutions.

The facility will produce advanced exterior lighting systems, including full-width single-piece lamps designed to enhance vehicle styling and performance.

It will also manufacture ultra-thin headlamp modules measuring just 17 millimeters in height, offering new possibilities for vehicle design.

The plant is equipped with high-capacity production systems capable of supporting complex lighting manufacturing processes.

Sustainability measures include the use of solar energy and environmental initiatives such as tree-planting programmes.

With the addition of the new facility, Marelli now operates 16 production plants and three research centres in India.

The MMLI joint venture employs over 4,500 people and continues to support innovation and growth in one of the world’s fastest-growing automotive markets.
