Asyraf Wajdi Explores New Models to Reduce Costs and Increase Opportunities

PETALING JAYA: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) is strengthening its partnerships with leading Australian universities to expand global education opportunities for its sponsored students.

Its chairman, Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, said his recent visit involved discussions with Monash University, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, University of Melbourne and University of Sydney.

He said the discussions focused on creating new frameworks to enable more MARA students to study abroad with better cost efficiency.

Flexible and Competitive International Programmes

Key proposals included expanding dual-degree programmes, improving credit transfer pathways and introducing co-sponsored postgraduate study options.

These initiatives aim to increase participation while ensuring responsible use of public funds.

He stressed that MARA’s priority is to widen access to quality education while maintaining financial sustainability.

UniKL and RMIT Collaboration Strengthens TVET

A formal partnership was also established between Universiti Kuala Lumpur and RMIT, providing stronger international pathways for TVET students.

This collaboration offers exposure to global technology, industry networks and further education opportunities.

He said the move reflects the growing importance of TVET in developing world-class skilled talent.

Long-Term Focus Includes Research and Academic Mobility

The collaboration also covers joint research in key sectors such as engineering and semiconductors, as well as academic exchange programmes.

He said MARA is committed to ensuring these partnerships deliver meaningful long-term benefits for Malaysia’s education sector.
