Malaysian Soldier Critical After Alleged Assault in Bentong Camp, Army Promises Firm Action
Victim fighting for life as probe unfolds
KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian Army personnel is in critical condition after allegedly being assaulted at the 25th Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment (RAMD) camp in Bentong, Pahang, with authorities now intensifying investigations into the incident.
The victim, Private Muhammad Amirul Raziq Rosafindi, is currently receiving treatment at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh and remains on life support due to severe injuries.
Army Chief General Datuk Azhan Md Othman stressed that extreme violence has no place in the armed forces, adding that firm action will be taken if those responsible are found guilty.
He also confirmed that he would visit the victim to obtain updates on his condition.
Parallel investigations underway
Azhan said the Army is awaiting the outcome of the police investigation, while simultaneously conducting its own internal inquiry through a Board of Inquiry.
The alleged assault is believed to have occurred on March 30, with a 37-year-old corporal detained by police to assist in the investigation.
The case has drawn public concern due to the severity of the injuries and the setting in which the incident took place, raising broader questions about discipline within the military.
Strict supervision for suspect
The Army Chief further stated that the suspect will be placed under strict supervision and will not be allowed to interact with other personnel if released from remand.
He emphasised that individuals who engage in violent conduct do not belong in the Army, which upholds discipline, professionalism and integrity as its core values.
Focus on accountability and outcome
The military has assured that the investigation will be conducted thoroughly and transparently, in cooperation with the police, to ensure accountability.
As the situation develops, attention remains on the victim’s condition and the findings of the investigation, which will determine the next course of action.
