Malaysia to Celebrate Hari Raya Aidiladha on May 27, Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal Announces

Muslims across Malaysia will celebrate Hari Raya Aidiladha on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, corresponding to 10 Zulhijjah 1447 Hijrah following an official announcement endorsed by the Conference of Rulers.

The announcement was delivered by Muhammad Affendi Jalaludin during a live national television broadcast tonight.

According to him, the date for Hari Raya Aidiladha was determined after the sighting of the Zulhijjah crescent moon was conducted at 29 locations nationwide earlier this evening.

“In fulfilment of the command of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and with the consent of the Malay Rulers, I hereby declare on behalf of the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal of Malaysia that 1 Zulhijjah 1447 Hijrah falls on May 18, 2026.

“Accordingly, Hari Raya Aidiladha for all states throughout Malaysia is fixed on Wednesday, May 27, 2026,” he announced.

Hari Raya Aidiladha is one of the most significant celebrations in the Islamic calendar and commemorates the sacrifice and obedience of Prophet Ibrahim AS to Allah SWT.

The occasion is also closely associated with the ibadah korban, or sacrificial ritual, performed by Muslims worldwide from the 10th to the 13th of Zulhijjah.

In Malaysia, Aidiladha celebrations usually begin with special congregational prayers at mosques and suraus before continuing with the slaughtering of sacrificial animals such as cows, goats and buffaloes for distribution to those in need.

Beyond its religious significance, the korban ritual is also regarded as an important symbol of sincerity, compassion and community solidarity among Muslims.

Each year, the official date for Aidiladha is determined through a combination of moon sighting observations and astronomical calculations after crescent moon observations are conducted at designated locations across the country.

These observation sites typically include hilltops, coastal areas and astronomical centres considered suitable for moon sighting activities.

The official declaration by the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal serves as the primary national reference for determining the beginning of Islamic months and major religious celebrations in Malaysia.

Following the announcement, Muslims nationwide are expected to begin preparations for the celebration, including arrangements for korban rituals, balik kampung travel plans and family gatherings.

Retail businesses and commercial sectors are also likely to experience increased activity as consumers prepare festive necessities such as food supplies, clothing and other Aidiladha-related items.

At the same time, government agencies and local authorities are expected to intensify preparations to ensure korban activities and Aidiladha celebrations throughout the country proceed smoothly and in accordance with established guidelines.
