MACC Reviews Report on Alleged RM500,000 Transaction Involving Former Minister
PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has confirmed that it is reviewing a report alleging a suspicious RM500,000 transaction linked to a former minister, raising questions over governance and financial transparency.
The report was filed by representatives from the Sekretariat Gempur Media Sosial Rakyat, who claimed that the funds were connected to a vending machine project and may have been channelled through an intermediary to a political figure.
MACC Strategic Communications Division director Hisyam Mohd Yusoff said the complaint was submitted by SekPur Political Bureau chairman Shahbudin Embun, accompanied by an individual identified as Major Razali Zakaria.
He noted that the report includes supporting documents, which are currently under review as part of the commission’s preliminary assessment process.
“The MACC has received the report and accompanying documents, and will examine the information thoroughly before determining the next course of action,” he said.
The allegations follow earlier media reports suggesting that the RM500,000 payment may have been related to lobbying efforts or political funding facilitated through third-party intermediaries.
Such claims have drawn attention to issues of transparency and accountability, particularly in transactions linked to public projects or individuals with prior government roles.
Observers say the case highlights the need for rigorous scrutiny to ensure that no abuse of power or breach of legal provisions has taken place.
At this stage, the matter remains under initial review, with investigators expected to analyse financial flows, identify involved parties, and verify the authenticity of submitted evidence.
This process is crucial in ensuring that any subsequent action is based on credible findings and aligns with due legal procedures.
The development also reflects the role of civil society groups in flagging potential irregularities, contributing to broader efforts to strengthen governance and institutional oversight.
As of now, the identity of the former minister allegedly involved has not been officially disclosed, and no formal charges have been filed.
The MACC reiterated its commitment to handling all reports impartially and transparently, in line with its mandate to combat corruption and uphold integrity in public service.
