Low-Cost Chicken Sale Sparks Rush, 2,500 Birds Sold Out in Half an Hour

KUALA TERENGGANU, April 6 — A chicken trader’s decision to sell poultry at just 90 sen each triggered a strong public response, with all 2,500 birds sold out within 30 minutes.

The trader, Mohd Suhaimi Hassan, 58, said the initiative was aimed at helping ease the burden of rising living costs faced by the community.

He said customers began lining up as early as 7am at his outlet in Merbau Patah to take advantage of the heavily discounted prices.

“My intention was simply to help people, especially those affected by the current economic situation.

“Even though there was no profit, I feel satisfied being able to share with the community,” he said.

Strong Demand Drives Rapid Sales

Mohd Suhaimi, who has been in the poultry business for more than 13 years, said he did not expect such overwhelming demand.

All 2,500 chickens were sold within just half an hour, highlighting the strong need for affordable food options.

He currently operates 13 outlets across Terengganu and described the initiative as a way to give back to loyal customers.

No Purchase Limit Set

To maximise the benefit to customers, no purchase limit was imposed during the sale.

This allowed buyers, especially those with large families, to purchase according to their needs.

However, it also contributed to the rapid depletion of stock.

Social Media Drives Public Interest

The sale was promoted several days in advance through social media platforms, which helped generate widespread awareness.

The turnout exceeded expectations, with a large number of customers arriving early.

Plans for Future Programmes

Encouraged by the response, Mohd Suhaimi plans to organise similar initiatives in the future.

He is also considering additional efforts to assist the public in coping with ongoing economic challenges.
