“I am now your number one enemy,” Hamzah Zainudin tells Muhyiddin, vows to remain Opposition Leader

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 14, 2026 – Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has declared that he will not appeal against Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (Bersatu) decision to expel him, signalling a deepening leadership rift within the party.

Speaking at a special press conference at the Universiti Malaya Alumni Association building today, Hamzah struck a defiant tone, stating that he has shifted from being Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s “number one supporter” to his “number one enemy”.

The Larut Member of Parliament’s remarks underscore escalating tensions within Bersatu following his expulsion alongside several leaders accused of breaching the party constitution.

Despite his removal from party ranks, Hamzah insisted that his position as Opposition Leader remains intact and that he will continue fulfilling his parliamentary duties.

“I will not appeal this decision. I am no longer his number one supporter. I am now his number one enemy,” he said, drawing applause from supporters present.

Leadership struggle enters new phase

Hamzah’s expulsion marks a significant turning point in Bersatu’s ongoing internal power struggle, which has intensified in recent months.

Muhyiddin previously defended the move as necessary to safeguard the party from internal sabotage, framing the decision as a corrective measure.

However, Hamzah’s public declaration suggests that the conflict has now moved into an openly confrontational phase.

He emphasised that his commitment to serving the rakyat and strengthening the Opposition bloc remains unchanged.

Political observers say the development could reshape the internal dynamics of Bersatu and potentially alter the broader opposition landscape.

Hamzah’s refusal to appeal and his assertive rhetoric may consolidate support among certain factions while deepening divisions within the party.

As the confrontation becomes more explicit, attention now shifts to how both leaders will navigate the unfolding political contest and its implications for Malaysia’s opposition politics.
