Hannah Yeoh Unveils Five Key Strategies to Position Federal Territories as Top Liveable Cities
KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh has outlined five key strategies for 2026 aimed at transforming the Federal Territories into the most liveable, safe, and sustainable urban centres in the country.
She said the first strategy focuses on building a sustainable living ecosystem grounded in integrity and clean governance, while the second targets comprehensive improvements in urban cleanliness.
“The third strategy is to enhance public safety through better flood mitigation, followed by a fourth that prioritises people’s wellbeing. The fifth centres on advancing the Sustainable Development Goals in urban development,” she said.
Hannah made the remarks in her address at the Federal Territories investiture ceremony held in conjunction with Federal Territory Day 2026 at Istana Negara.
She said all five strategies are aligned with national development priorities and are designed to keep the Federal Territories at the core of the Madani economic agenda.
Outlining specific plans, Hannah said Kuala Lumpur would be further strengthened as Malaysia’s main economic hub, Putrajaya would remain the administrative centre, and Labuan would be developed into a blue economy and tourism hub in Borneo.
She added that the current economic performance of the Federal Territories is encouraging, with Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya recording 62 per cent GDP growth, while Labuan posted 5.4 per cent, exceeding the national average of 5.1 per cent.
On governance, Hannah reaffirmed the government’s commitment to zero tolerance for corruption and abuse of power in all Federal Territories programmes.
She stressed that integrity must remain the foundation of public trust and sustainable urban development.
“I humbly express my deepest gratitude to His Majesty for consistently emphasising the importance of trust, integrity, and clean governance in national administration,” she said.
She also thanked Sultan Ibrahim for consenting to her appointment as minister.
“I, together with all officers of the Federal Territories Department and its agencies, pledge our full commitment to strengthening the Federal Territories for the wellbeing of the people,” she added.
Earlier, His Majesty conferred federal awards, decorations, and medals on 54 individuals in conjunction with the 2026 Federal Territory Day celebrations.
