Hamilton Expands Industrial Reach With Hazardous-Area Certification for Oxygen Sensors

BONADUZ, April 11 – Hamilton Company has secured North American hazardous-area certification for its dissolved oxygen sensors, allowing deployment in high-risk industrial environments across the United States and Canada.

The approval applies to its VisiFerm mA and VisiTrace mA models, enabling their use in facilities where explosive atmospheres may be present.

Certification Unlocks New Industrial Applications

The certification, granted by CSA Group, confirms compliance with CSA, UL and FM standards, which govern safety requirements for equipment used in hazardous locations.

This ensures that the sensors meet strict criteria for intrinsically safe instrumentation in classified environments.

Access to High-Risk Sectors

With this approval, Hamilton’s sensors can now be deployed in industries such as chemical processing, energy production and heavy manufacturing, where safety-certified equipment is essential.

These sectors often operate in conditions involving flammable gases, vapours or dust, requiring specialised instrumentation.

Designed for Demanding Conditions

The sensors are loop-powered devices that operate via a 4–20 mA HART interface, enabling reliable monitoring of dissolved oxygen in complex process environments.

This capability supports process stability, product quality and operational efficiency in industrial settings.

Strategic Expansion Into North America

According to global product manager Emanuel Souto, the certification represents a key milestone in expanding the company’s presence in regulated markets.

It allows customers to adopt Hamilton’s sensor technology in hazardous environments without requiring alternative solutions.

Critical Role in Process Monitoring

Dissolved oxygen measurement is essential in many industrial applications, particularly in maintaining optimal process conditions.

The new certification extends the use of these sensors to environments that demand higher safety standards.

Strengthening Global Certification Portfolio

Hamilton’s sensors have been certified for hazardous environments under international standards such as ATEX, IECEx, UKEx and EAC since 2019.

The addition of North American certification broadens the company’s regulatory coverage and supports its global expansion strategy.
