Gobind Singh Deo Urges New Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Chief to Probe ‘Corporate Mafia’ Claims
KUALA LUMPUR, April 26 — DAP chairman Gobind Singh Deo has called on the incoming head of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to prioritise investigations into allegations of a “corporate mafia” operating within the agency.
He said the issue should be among the first matters addressed when Abdul Halim Aman assumes office as chief commissioner on May 13.
Restoring Trust Must Come First
Gobind stressed that rebuilding public confidence should be the immediate focus, beginning with a clear and structured reform roadmap.
Without decisive action, he warned, concerns over the commission’s integrity would persist.
Serious Allegations Demand Action
He highlighted claims that certain officials may have been involved in corporate dealings during ongoing investigations, describing them as serious accusations that could undermine the agency’s credibility.
He urged that investigations be carried out transparently and within defined timelines.
Shareholding Controversy Still Unresolved
Gobind also pointed to the unresolved shareholding issue involving outgoing chief Azam Baki, noting that despite Cabinet instructions issued over a month ago, the matter has yet to be concluded.
Clearing the Path for New Leadership
He argued that lingering controversies must be resolved quickly to allow the new leadership to begin its tenure without being burdened by unresolved issues.
Early Actions Will Define Leadership
Gobind added that the first steps taken by the new chief commissioner will set the tone for his leadership.
Transparency, accountability and the willingness to act decisively, he said, will determine whether meaningful reform is truly underway.
