FAMA’s Semarak Syawal Programme in Melaka Offers Essentials at Lower Prices
JASIN – Residents in Melaka now have the opportunity to purchase daily necessities at lower prices through the Semarak Syawal programme organised by the Lembaga Pemasaran Pertanian Persekutuan at several farmers’ markets across the state.
The initiative, which runs from March 14 to March 19, offers various essential goods at prices between 10 and 30 per cent lower than the market rate, helping consumers prepare for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
Melaka Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security Committee chairman Muhamad Akmal Saleh said the programme is being held at six selected farmers’ markets in the state.
According to him, the initiative aims to ease the financial burden on consumers by providing affordable access to food supplies during the festive season.
Special Promotions for Essential Goods
At the Semarak Syawal programme held at Pasar Tani Merlimau, one of the main attractions is the sale of whole chicken at RM5 per bird, with each customer allowed to purchase up to two chickens.
Other special offers include fresh beef priced at RM30 per kilogram, grade C eggs at RM10 per tray and Beras Melaka sold at RM26 per bag.
In addition, several food combo packages are also available to give shoppers more purchasing options.
Muhamad Akmal said the promotional prices are designed to help consumers obtain essential food items at more affordable rates ahead of the festive celebration.
Adequate Supply of Essentials
He also assured the public that there is no shortage of essential goods and that supplies remain sufficient to meet demand during the festive season.
Beras Melaka, which has received encouraging demand from consumers, can be purchased at farmers’ markets throughout the state.
The rice is distributed exclusively by the Lembaga Pemasaran Pertanian Persekutuan with production currently estimated at around 1,200 bags per month.
“Demand for Beras Melaka continues to increase, especially as Aidilfitri approaches,” he said.
During the first quarter of this year alone, production reached approximately 3,600 bags.
Efforts are also being intensified to expand production in the future to meet rising consumer demand.
Helping Consumers Manage Living Costs
The Semarak Syawal programme is part of ongoing efforts by FAMA to support consumers by providing essential goods at more affordable prices.
Through initiatives like this, the government hopes to help Malaysians prepare for festive celebrations while easing the pressure of rising living costs.
