DAP Rejects ‘Backdoor’ Government Move in Negeri Sembilan Amid Political Tensions
SEREMBAN, April 27 — The Democratic Action Party (DAP) has firmly rejected any attempt to form a new Negeri Sembilan state government through what it described as “backdoor” manoeuvres, following a political shake-up triggered by the withdrawal of support from 14 Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen.
State DAP chairman Anthony Loke Siew Fook said the removal of Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun must adhere strictly to constitutional processes, stressing that leadership changes can only occur through a vote of no confidence in the State Legislative Assembly or via a new appointment sanctioned by the state ruler if a clear majority is established.
Speaking at a press conference held at the official Menteri Besar residence, Loke emphasised that the current Negeri Sembilan Unity Government was formed based on a legitimate mandate from the people during the 2023 state election.
“Any attempt to alter the government outside democratic procedures is inappropriate and undermines the will of the জনগ,” he said, reaffirming DAP’s stance against political realignment through informal or non-transparent means.
Loke, who is also the Chennah assemblyman, underscored the party’s commitment to Malaysia’s constitutional monarchy, noting that DAP respects the authority of Tuanku Muhriz ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir and the role of the Undang Yang Empat in matters concerning the state’s leadership.
He explained that any action involving the position of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar must follow due process as outlined in Article 10 of the Negeri Sembilan Constitution, which requires a thorough investigation before any decision is made.
“DAP does not dispute the powers of the Undang Yang Empat, but the process must be completed properly. At this stage, we view the matter as not yet finalised, and as assemblymen, we continue to recognise Tuanku Muhriz as the rightful ruler,” he added.
Loke also confirmed that all 11 DAP assemblymen in Negeri Sembilan have pledged full support to Aminuddin to continue leading the state government, signalling stability within the ruling coalition despite the political uncertainty.
Meanwhile, Negeri Sembilan Amanah chairman MK Ibrahim Abd Rahman reiterated his party’s support for Aminuddin and the Unity Government, emphasising Amanah’s commitment to maintaining political stability and focusing on governance.
He said the party was taken aback by the recent developments but remains steadfast in its support for the existing administration, while respecting all decisions made in accordance with the state constitution.
“We are committed to defending the current government and ensuring that the welfare of the people and the state’s development agenda remain our top priorities,” he said.
The unfolding political situation has drawn attention to the mechanisms of state governance and constitutional procedures, with analysts noting that any leadership transition must follow clearly defined legal frameworks to ensure legitimacy.
For now, the backing from DAP and Amanah provides Aminuddin with crucial political support, reinforcing the position of the current state government amid ongoing uncertainty.
