Customs Seizes Six Containers of Steel Without Permit at Port Klang

Total Case Value Including Duties Near RM900,000

SEPANG: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM), through its COBRA enforcement unit, has seized six containers loaded with steel imported without valid permits during an operation at Port Klang on January 19.

KLIA Customs director Zulkifli Muhammad said inspections revealed the containers carried various types of steel weighing 145,281 kilogrammes, believed to have been shipped from an Asian country.

He said the shipment did not have the required import permit from the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB), as required under current regulations.

Seizure and Tax Value Exceed RM883,000

The value of the seized steel was estimated at RM683,164, while unpaid duties and taxes amounted to RM200,136.

The total value of the case, including duties, was estimated at RM883,301.15.

Authorities believe false declarations were made to avoid import permit requirements.

Investigation Under Customs Act 1967

The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(g) of the Customs Act 1967.

If found guilty, those responsible may face fines, imprisonment of up to five years, or both.

Public Urged to Assist Enforcement Efforts

JKDM has urged the public to report any information related to smuggling activities through its official hotline or nearest customs office.

The department reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening enforcement and ensuring compliance with import regulations.
