Chinese Crewman Arrested After Allegedly Stabbing Co-Worker Aboard Vessel Near Klang Waters
KLANG: A Chinese national working as a ship crew member was arrested after allegedly stabbing his fellow countryman during a fight aboard MV Lucky Camelia near the waters off Tanjung Rhu, Klang last night.
The victim, a 47-year-old crew member, reportedly suffered injuries to the abdomen after being attacked with a sharp object during an altercation involving another Chinese national employed on the same vessel.
Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh, director of the Selangor division of the Agensi Penguatkuasaan Maritim Malaysia, said authorities received an emergency request for the victim to be evacuated for medical treatment at approximately 8.52 pm.
According to him, the emergency call was received by the Selangor Maritime Operations Centre after a fight broke out between two crew members aboard MV Lucky Camelia, which was located about four nautical miles from Tanjung Rhu waters.
Following the report, enforcement personnel deployed Bot Penggalang 41 to the scene to conduct rescue operations and preliminary investigations.
“Bot Penggalang 41 arrived at the vessel at about 11.51 pm and officers were informed that a fight had taken place between two crew members, resulting in one of them being stabbed in the abdomen,” he said in a statement today.
According to Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh, authorities later arrested a 36-year-old Chinese national to assist investigations into the attempted murder case.
He said the suspect was taken to the jetty operated by the Pasukan Polis Marin before being handed over to investigating officers at approximately 1.15 am for further action.
Meanwhile, the injured victim was transported by ambulance to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah for emergency treatment.
Authorities confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
Investigators are currently working to determine the exact cause of the altercation that led to the stabbing incident.
The case has attracted attention as the incident occurred near one of Selangor’s important maritime trading routes frequently used by international cargo vessels.
Although incidents involving foreign ship crews are relatively uncommon, maritime enforcement authorities continue strengthening security monitoring within Malaysian waters to ensure criminal or emergency situations can be handled swiftly.
Agensi Penguatkuasaan Maritim Malaysia also urged the public to report any suspicious activities or emergencies at sea immediately to enable prompt enforcement action.
Members of the public may contact the Selangor Maritime Operations Centre via 013-6606652 or the emergency hotline 999 if they possess information regarding suspicious maritime activities.
Authorities stressed that public cooperation remains crucial in helping maintain maritime security while enabling faster response operations involving crimes or emergencies at sea.
