KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 — The growing popularity of Chinese dramas in Malaysia reached new heights as Esther Yu made her first-ever appearance in the country, captivating thousands of fans during a highly anticipated meet-and-greet event.

The actress and singer, also known as Yu Shuxin, arrived in Kuala Lumpur as part of the iQIYI Starship 2026 tour, marking a milestone moment for her Malaysian fanbase who had long awaited her visit.

Esther Yu’s rising influence in Malaysia can be largely attributed to her standout performances in hit dramas such as Love Between Fairy and Devil and My Journey to You, both of which showcased her versatility and strong on-screen presence.

Excitement surrounding her arrival was evident well before the event itself. Hundreds of fans gathered at the airport to welcome her, while more than a thousand assembled outside Zepp Kuala Lumpur hours ahead of the scheduled fan meet, waving banners and holding merchandise in celebration.

Known affectionately as “Little Pomegranates,” her fans demonstrated remarkable dedication, with some travelling long distances and even cosplaying as characters from her dramas.

Many attendees described Esther Yu as genuine and approachable, praising her lively personality and the authenticity she brings both on and off screen.

The event reached its peak at around 8pm when the star took to the stage, greeting fans in Bahasa Malaysia — a gesture that immediately sparked cheers across the venue and strengthened her connection with the audience.

Throughout the evening, fans were treated to a series of interactive segments, including games with local personalities and a cultural showcase where Esther Yu participated in a traditional Zapin dance.

One of the most memorable highlights was a lucky draw that gave selected fans the rare opportunity to take a group photo with the star, creating unforgettable moments for those involved.

During a media session, Esther Yu shared that she frequently reads comments from Malaysian fans online and expressed her appreciation for their unwavering support. She also spoke enthusiastically about trying local cuisine, including satay.

Looking ahead, she revealed her openness to returning to Malaysia for future projects, including the possibility of starring in a locally set romance drama or participating in a variety show.

She also hinted at exploring new roles in her acting career and did not rule out holding a concert in the future if fan support continues to grow.

Fans can now look forward to her upcoming dramas, which are expected to further solidify her presence on the international stage and deepen her connection with audiences across the region.
