Bersatu Terminates Hamzah Zainudin’s Membership with Immediate Effect
KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) has officially revoked the membership of its deputy president, Hamzah Zainudin, effective immediately, following a ruling by the party’s Disciplinary Board over violations of its constitutional provisions.
In a formal notice issued to him, the Disciplinary Board — chaired by Datuk Mohd Radzi Manan — stated that it convened and resolved to terminate his membership under Clause 22.5 of the party constitution for breaching Clause 9.1.4.
The clause requires all members to abide by the party’s constitution, as well as its Code of Ethics and Conduct.
Right to Seek Review
Although the termination takes effect immediately, Hamzah is entitled to appeal the decision within 14 days by submitting his case to the party’s Appeals Board.
Party secretary-general Azmin Ali confirmed the disciplinary action in a statement, adding that the Supreme Leadership Council had been duly informed.
The party has yet to clarify whether the expulsion has implications for Hamzah’s role as Opposition Leader in Parliament.
Allegations of Undermining Party Leadership
Hamzah had previously been summoned by the Disciplinary Board over allegations linking him and several division chiefs to efforts perceived as undermining party unity and affecting the standing of Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin.
Earlier reports indicated that he did not attend the disciplinary proceedings as he was in Sydney, Australia, assisting with his daughter’s university enrolment.
At the time of writing, Hamzah has not issued any public statement responding to the party’s decision.
The development marks a notable shift within Bersatu’s leadership framework and may have broader political implications, given Hamzah’s senior standing and influence within the party hierarchy.
