Azam Baki Declines Immediate Comment on RM1.11 Billion Allegation, Says Deputy Will Address Matter
SEPANG – Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (MACC) Chief Commissioner Azam Baki has refrained from providing further details on allegations involving the misappropriation of RM1.11 billion in investments linked to a former senior minister, stating that clarification will be issued by his deputy.
Azam said the matter had only recently been reported and he currently had no updated information regarding the investigation’s status.
“I do not wish to comment at this stage. My deputy will provide clarification as the report was only recently lodged,” he told reporters after attending the launch of the Kampung Angkat MADANI programme in Sepang.
The MACC earlier confirmed receiving multiple reports on February 12 concerning the alleged misappropriation.
Initial Scrutiny of Reports Underway
Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya had previously indicated that all submissions would be assessed to determine whether there are elements of corruption, criminal breach of trust or abuse of power under the MACC Act 2009.
He said preliminary actions include reviewing documentation and evidence provided before deciding whether to open an official investigation file.
The commission emphasised that investigations will proceed in accordance with legal procedures and principles of transparency.
No Confirmation of Formal Investigation Yet
Azam noted that there is currently no confirmation regarding the opening of an investigation paper or the summoning of individuals for questioning.
High-value cases involving substantial public interest are typically handled with procedural caution to ensure due process.
Further updates are expected once the commission completes its initial evaluation of the reports and determines the appropriate next steps.
