Anwar Ibrahim Inspects KTMB’s ETS3 Service, Engages Passengers on KL–Johor Bahru Route
PETALING JAYA, Feb 1, 2026 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim took advantage of the long holiday weekend in conjunction with Federal Territory Day and Thaipusam to personally inspect the operations of the Electric Train Service 3 (ETS3) operated by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) on the Kuala Lumpur–Johor Bahru route.
The visit allowed Anwar to experience the train service firsthand while interacting directly with passengers travelling during the peak holiday period. It also provided an opportunity for the government to assess the effectiveness and quality of public transport services from a user’s perspective.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Anwar said the journey was intended to bring the country’s leadership closer to the people and to gather direct feedback on the performance of the rail system.
According to him, he took time to engage with passengers throughout the journey, listening to their views on comfort, punctuality, and overall travel experience.
“Alhamdulillah, the response has been very encouraging, especially in terms of comfort and the smoother, more organised travel experience,” he said.
Anwar noted that the positive feedback reflected the continuous efforts by the government and KTMB management to improve rail services in line with public expectations and growing demand.
He added that ETS3 plays a key role in strengthening intercity connectivity, particularly in linking major administrative, commercial, and industrial centres across Peninsular Malaysia.
Efficient and reliable rail services, he said, not only facilitate daily commuting but also contribute significantly to economic growth, tourism development, and investment attraction.
“The government will continue to prioritise the strengthening of safe, efficient, and people-friendly public services. A reliable transportation system is fundamental to social well-being and national productivity,” he said.
Anwar emphasised that improvements to the ETS network and national rail infrastructure would be sustained through investments in modern technology, facility upgrades, and workforce development.
The visit also reflects his leadership approach, which focuses on ground-level engagement to better understand public needs and service delivery challenges.
Over the past few years, KTMB has introduced various upgrades, including new train sets, improved station facilities, and digital ticketing systems, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
The ETS3 service between Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru has become increasingly popular, especially during festive seasons and long holidays, as it offers faster and more comfortable travel compared to road transport.
Transport industry observers believe that direct involvement by top national leaders in evaluating public services can strengthen accountability and encourage continuous improvement.
With strong policy support and inter-agency cooperation, Malaysia’s rail network is expected to continue evolving as a sustainable and competitive backbone of the country’s public transportation system.
