Anwar Ibrahim calls on Muslims to reflect on Ramadan’s true purpose beyond ritual observance
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 18 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged Muslims to embrace Ramadan as a period of inner growth, reminding them that fasting is not only about fulfilling religious obligations but also about nurturing spiritual strength and character.
He said Ramadan offers an opportunity for Muslims to exercise self-control and deepen their connection with God while improving their conduct in daily life.
Anwar emphasised that the spirit of mujahadah, or striving against personal desires, should guide acts of worship throughout the holy month rather than focusing solely on spiritual rewards.
He noted that fasting serves as a form of spiritual training aimed at cultivating piety and strengthening moral values.
“The ultimate objective of fasting is to develop piety through sincerity and awareness,” he said in a Facebook post.
He added that Ramadan also teaches discipline and encourages Muslims to carry out their responsibilities with greater commitment and integrity.
According to Anwar, the true impact of Ramadan should be reflected in personal growth and improved character.
The prime minister also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to welcome Ramadan once again and encouraged Muslims to make the most of the blessed month.
Muslims across the country will begin fasting tomorrow.
