Amira Aisya Chosen as MUDA President for 2026–2029 Term Following Party’s First Leadership Election

PETALING JAYA, March 14 — Puteri Wangsa state assemblywoman Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz has been elected as the new president of Parti Ikatan Demokratik Malaysia (MUDA) for the 2026–2029 term after the party held its first internal leadership election.

The appointment was confirmed after members of the Central Executive Committee (JKEP) convened to determine the party’s leadership structure following the conclusion of the voting process.

Although Amira ranked third in terms of the number of votes received during the committee election, she was later chosen as president through the collective decision of the committee members.

In the voting process, Amira secured 103 votes from party delegates.

She trailed behind Leben Siddarth, who obtained the highest number of votes with 110, while Saiyidah Izzati Nur came in second with 104 votes.

Under MUDA’s electoral system, the 25 candidates who receive the most votes are first appointed as members of the Central Executive Committee.

The committee members then meet to determine the party’s top leadership positions, including the president, deputy president and other senior roles.

Prior to the election, Amira — who had been serving as acting president — was widely regarded as a leading contender for the top position if she secured a seat within the committee.

Her candidacy was strengthened by support expressed by several fellow candidates ahead of the voting process.

The long-delayed internal election was attended by approximately 125 delegates who participated in the voting process to select the party’s new leadership.

After the first Central Executive Committee meeting concluded, Amira announced the lineup of leaders who will guide the party for the next three-year term.

She said the committee had reached unanimous agreement on several key leadership appointments.

Among the major decisions was the appointment of Zaidil Baharudin as MUDA’s deputy president.

According to Amira, the decision was supported by all committee members as part of the effort to establish a cohesive leadership team following the election.

The party also named five vice-presidents: Liban Sida, Faizrah Nizalman, Zarul Afiq, Dobby Choo and Dr. Siva.

Meanwhile, Rashid Abu Bakar was appointed as the party’s information chief.

Amira also confirmed that the secretary-general position will continue to be held by Aini Haziqah, whom she described as her preferred candidate for the role.

She added that the appointments for treasurer-general and several additional committee positions under the president’s authority will be announced after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holidays.

During the press conference following the announcement, Amira expressed appreciation to all candidates who contested in the election as well as the delegates who participated in the process.

She described the internal election as an important milestone in MUDA’s development as a political party that aims to empower young leaders in Malaysia.

Amira emphasised that the newly formed leadership team carries a significant responsibility to fulfil the mandate given by party members.

She also expressed confidence that the 25 members of the Central Executive Committee possess the vision and determination required to elevate the party’s role in Malaysian politics.

According to her, the leadership team will remain committed to advancing the party’s agenda and implementing the promises outlined in its manifesto.

“I hope all delegates will continue to pray for us so that we can carry out this responsibility well, continue to represent the voice of the people and never forget those who are struggling,” she said.

Amira added that MUDA’s leadership aims to contribute towards shaping a future Malaysia where every citizen can live with dignity and equal opportunity.
