Second Malaysian Oil Shipment via Strait of Hormuz Expected by Weekend, Says Fahmi

MUAR: Another Malaysian vessel carrying fuel supplies that successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz is expected to arrive by the end of the week, reinforcing the country’s crude oil supply amid ongoing global uncertainties.

Communications Minister and government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil said the incoming shipment follows the arrival of a previous tanker on April 17, which delivered approximately one million barrels of crude oil.

He noted that the additional shipment would further strengthen Malaysia’s energy security at a time when geopolitical tensions continue to affect key global supply routes.

The crude oil is expected to be processed at domestic refineries to ensure continued fuel availability, particularly for national oil company Petronas.

“This will help ensure sufficient crude supply for processing, supporting fuel availability at least until the end of June,” he said during a media briefing after inspecting fuel subsidy implementation in Pagoh.

Temporary BUDI95 Adjustment Remains in Place

Fahmi also addressed calls from certain quarters to restore previous fuel subsidy quotas under the BUDI95 programme.

He clarified that the current adjustment, which limits the subsidy quota to 200 litres per month, is a temporary measure aimed at managing supply during a period of instability.

The government, he added, will continue to monitor developments and adjust policies as needed based on supply conditions and domestic requirements.

Energy supply issues are expected to be discussed further at an upcoming National Economic Action Council meeting.

Fuel Supply in Johor Remains Stable

Fahmi reassured that fuel supply across Johor remains stable, with no reports of shortages or disruptions.

He said all 639 petrol stations in the state are operating normally, ensuring that consumers continue to have access to fuel without interruption.

Digital and Community Initiatives Also Highlighted

During his two-day working visit to Johor, Fahmi also reviewed several government initiatives, including efforts to improve internet connectivity along approximately 1,700 kilometres of railway lines operated by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad.

He also launched a Safe Internet Campaign at a higher education institution in Pagoh, aimed at equipping youth with the knowledge to navigate digital risks.

Additionally, Fahmi presented appointment letters to 150 MADANI Community Leaders, part of an initiative to strengthen grassroots communication and improve the dissemination of government information.
