Sapura Showcases AI and Cyber Innovations at DSA 2026 to Strengthen Defence Technology Leadership
KUALA LUMPUR: Sapura Group is reinforcing its position in the defence and security sector by unveiling a suite of advanced technologies at the Defence Services Asia (DSA) 2026 exhibition.
Chief executive Shahril Shamsuddin said the company’s latest offerings focus on cybersecurity capabilities, sovereign artificial intelligence and secure communication systems designed to meet evolving national security needs.
He noted that the initiative reflects Sapura’s broader commitment to strengthening Malaysia’s resilience against emerging threats, particularly in the digital domain.
Rising Importance of Cyber and Digital Defence
According to Shahril, modern security challenges are increasingly driven by cyber threats and digital warfare, which continue to evolve at a rapid pace.
Through its cybersecurity and intelligence arm, Velum Labs, the group is able to track, analyse and respond to these threats, translating intelligence into practical defence solutions.
He added that investment in AI is central to this strategy, given its transformative potential in shaping future cyber operations.
Velum Labs is currently leading efforts to develop sovereign AI capabilities that can be integrated into national cybersecurity frameworks.
Live Demonstrations Highlight Capabilities
At the exhibition, Sapura is showcasing its V-ATTACK programme, demonstrating how AI-driven tools can be deployed in active cyber defence and threat response scenarios.
In addition, Sapura Secured Technologies is presenting the latest version of the Government Integrated Radio Network (GIRN 2.0), a 5G-enabled and AI-powered communication system.
The platform is designed to enhance coordination among government agencies, particularly in emergency response and disaster management situations.
Improving National Response Capabilities
Shahril said the system enables real-time situational awareness from field operations to central command, allowing faster decision-making and more effective inter-agency coordination.
This capability is expected to play a crucial role in improving crisis response and safeguarding public safety.
Advancing Malaysia’s Strategic Technology Position
Sapura’s participation at Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre underscores its ongoing efforts to develop homegrown technologies that can compete at both regional and global levels.
The move also strengthens Malaysia’s standing as a growing hub for defence technology, cybersecurity innovation and sovereign communication systems.
