SPOT-Me System Stable Ahead of Nationwide WFH Rollout, Prepared for Significant User Growth
KUALA LUMPUR, April 6 — The SPOT-Me (Secure Personnel Online Tracking) system is fully prepared to support the nationwide implementation of work-from-home (WFH) arrangements for civil servants starting April 15, with current performance indicating strong stability.
According to Elisah Satim of the National Digital Department, the system has demonstrated reliable operation across various government agencies, even under existing usage conditions.
She said SPOT-Me is currently utilised by more than 40,000 users across 265 agencies, highlighting its readiness to operate at scale.
“The system has shown stable performance and is ready to support wider WFH implementation,” she said during a podcast organised by the Public Service Department (JPA).
User Numbers Expected to Rise Sharply
Elisah noted that user numbers are projected to increase significantly to around 400,000 once the policy is fully rolled out nationwide.
To prepare for this, measures such as stress testing have been implemented to ensure the system can handle high volumes of simultaneous access without performance issues.
These proactive steps are aimed at maintaining service continuity during peak demand.
Digital Tools Enhance Work Monitoring
Developed in 2020 by the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU), SPOT-Me provides a digital platform for tracking attendance and monitoring work progress.
It allows civil servants to log their working hours remotely and submit completed tasks for verification, improving transparency and accountability.
This initiative supports broader efforts to modernise public sector operations through digital solutions.
Eligibility Criteria Balances Efficiency
Meanwhile, Zanariah Zainuddin of JPA explained that the minimum commuting distance of eight kilometres was introduced to balance cost efficiency with employee welfare.
The measure aims to ease commuting burdens while ensuring productivity remains unaffected.
Essential Services Remain On-Site
Despite the expanded WFH policy, critical sectors including security, enforcement, healthcare, and education are exempted.
Agencies such as the military, police, and fire services, along with healthcare workers and educators, will continue on-site operations to ensure uninterrupted essential services.
The approach reflects a balanced policy framework combining flexibility with operational necessity.
