MIC remaining with BN is a manifestation of loyalty, political maturity – Zambry

KUALA LUMPUR: The decision of the MIC Central Working Committee (CWC) to continue to remain with Barisan Nasional (BN) is being described as a manifestation of loyalty and far-sighted political maturity.

BN Secretary-General Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir said the decision reached in yesterday’s CWC meeting was not just a current political stance, but a reflection of the historical roots of the struggle that had been built since the Alliance era (1955-1973) and was later strengthened through BN (1974 until now).

“Over this long period, this coalition has gone through various tests, from racial challenges, political pressure, to changes in the national landscape, but BN has remained resilient because its foundation is trust, loyalty and shared responsibility,” he said in a statement today.

He said MIC’s decision to remain with BN also had a strong and rational justification, namely due to factors of stability and continuity, the strength of consensus among various races, the ability to renew itself and rejecting divisive politics.

Zambry said that in an increasingly divided and uncertain political situation, the people need a stable and experienced platform and BN has proven its ability to govern the country in an inclusive and pragmatic manner, making it a platform that is still relevant.

He said that in the context of a plural Malaysia, BN is not just a coalition of parties but a model of inter-racial cooperation that has been tested by time and strength, which is very important to ensure that social harmony is maintained.

“Despite being tested by various challenges, BN is not static. It is going through a process of restructuring, strengthening the organisation and renewing its approach to be more responsive to the needs of the people today.”

“In an atmosphere where there are efforts to divide the existing unity, this decision sends a clear signal that the principles of togetherness and solidarity cannot be sacrificed for short-term interests,” he said.

Therefore, Zambry said efforts to streamline BN would continue to be intensified, as long as the spirit of unity was upheld honestly and sincerely, any attempt to weaken or divide the coalition would be dealt with wisdom and internal strength.

“Ultimately, this decision is not just about today, but about the future that politics based on unity, moderation and responsibility still have an important place in building a more stable and prosperous Malaysia,” he said.
