Nearly 2,000 Malaysian Students in West Asia Safe as Government Intensifies Monitoring Amid Rising Conflict
Authorities maintain close watch to protect Malaysian students abroad
BACHOK, March 2 — The Malaysian government has confirmed that 1,936 Malaysian students currently studying in several West Asian countries remain safe despite escalating tensions in the region.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir said authorities are closely monitoring the situation through coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Education Malaysia offices overseas.
He stressed that no Malaysian student has been reported injured, harmed, or directly affected by the ongoing conflict.
The government, he said, remains fully committed to ensuring the safety and welfare of Malaysians abroad.
Jordan hosts the largest Malaysian student population
Jordan accounts for the largest number of Malaysian students, with 1,762 currently enrolled in universities there.
Saudi Arabia follows with 135 students, while smaller groups are located in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Iran and Qatar.
These countries have long been popular destinations for Malaysian students pursuing higher education.
Despite the tense situation, students have continued their studies without major disruption.
Embassies and Education Malaysia offices on alert
Education Malaysia offices in the region have increased their monitoring efforts and are maintaining constant communication with students.
Malaysian embassies are also actively involved in ensuring student safety.
These institutions serve as important support networks, providing guidance and assistance when needed.
The government emphasized that every Malaysian student will receive protection and attention.
Evacuation plans ready if situation worsens
Although no students have requested evacuation so far, the government is prepared to act if the security situation deteriorates.
Emergency response plans are already in place to facilitate evacuation if necessary.
Zambry also urged students to register with Malaysian embassies to ensure efficient communication.
This step allows authorities to provide immediate support during emergencies.
