Mydin Expands Retail Footprint With New Bagan Datuk Outlet, Boosts Access and Local Economic Growth
BAGAN DATUK, Feb 27 — Malaysian retail chain Mydin Mohamed Holdings Berhad has strengthened its presence in the country’s retail industry with the opening of a new Mydin Mart outlet in Bagan Datuk, reinforcing its commitment to bringing affordable daily essentials closer to local communities.
Managing director Datuk Wira Dr Ameer Ali Mydin said the latest outlet represents the company’s 75th branch and forms part of its broader plan to expand its network beyond major urban centres.
He said the new store, operated by Tri Shaas Sdn. Bhd., involved an investment of approximately RM1 million and reflects Mydin’s confidence in the growth potential of smaller towns.
According to him, the expansion ensures residents in the surrounding areas can enjoy convenient access to essential goods without having to travel long distances.
He added that Mydin remains focused on its mission of offering quality products at competitive prices to help ease the cost of living for Malaysians.
The new outlet in Hutan Melintang was officially opened by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Ameer said the opening of the store also contributes to local economic development.
He explained that the outlet provides job opportunities for residents and creates business prospects for local entrepreneurs and suppliers.
The store covers approximately 7,000 square feet and carries around 6,000 stock keeping units (SKUs).
Customers can choose from a wide variety of products, including groceries, fresh items, clothing, household products, and locally made goods.
He said the company aims to provide customers with a complete and convenient shopping experience.
As part of its corporate social responsibility efforts, Mydin also carried out community support initiatives during the launch.
Through its Mydin Prihatin programme, the company distributed SARA Rahmah assistance boxes to 50 recipients to help ease their financial burden ahead of Ramadan.
Customers also benefited from special promotions and exclusive deals to mark the store’s official opening.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi described the opening as a positive development for the region.
He said the strategic location between Teluk Intan, Bagan Datuk, and Sabak Bernam makes the store easily accessible.
He added that Mydin Mart’s presence should be seen as an opportunity for collaboration rather than competition with small retailers.
According to him, local traders can purchase goods at wholesale prices, helping them sustain and grow their businesses.
He also noted that the availability of the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme at the store allows families to purchase essential items more easily.
