Anthony Loke orders immediate probe after twin disruptions hit Kelana Jaya LRT Line

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 24 — Transport Minister Anthony Loke has instructed authorities to launch a detailed investigation following two separate service breakdowns affecting the Kelana Jaya LRT Line in a single day, disrupting the travel plans of thousands of commuters.

He said the government is taking the matter seriously, given the critical role played by rail services in supporting daily transportation across the Klang Valley.

According to him, the disruptions were particularly concerning as they occurred during the early phase of Ramadan, when many people depend heavily on public transport.

“Passengers deserve a system that operates efficiently and reliably. Disruptions of this nature must be properly addressed,” he said in an official statement.

He confirmed that Prasarana Malaysia Berhad has been directed to submit a full report explaining the causes of the incidents and to implement immediate corrective measures.

In addition, the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) has been tasked with conducting an independent assessment to determine whether operational or technical failures contributed to the breakdowns.

Anthony Loke stressed that appropriate action will be taken if any negligence or preventable weaknesses are identified.

The second disruption took place in the afternoon when Rapid KL reported a malfunction involving train door mechanisms and platform screen doors at KLCC station.

Although technicians managed to resolve the issue quickly, the disruption caused significant congestion at several stations, particularly during peak travel hours.

Rapid KL later issued an advisory warning passengers about overcrowding and encouraged them to consider alternative routes.

Earlier in the day, commuters had already experienced major delays after a manually operated train created congestion between Asia Jaya and Taman Bahagia stations.

The disruption lasted approximately 90 minutes, forcing operators to deploy additional services to restore normal operations.

Rapid KL apologised for the inconvenience and assured passengers that improvements are being made to enhance service reliability.

The repeated incidents have renewed public concerns about the dependability of the urban rail network, which remains a key component of Kuala Lumpur’s public transportation system.
