Opposition Leader Role Uncertain as Hamzah Zainuddin Remains Silent After Bersatu Expulsion

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 23 — The future of Hamzah Zainuddin as Malaysia’s federal Opposition Leader remains unclear after his expulsion from Bersatu, with the Larut MP declining to comment on his position.

When approached by reporters at Parliament today, Hamzah gave only a brief response, saying “later” when asked about his political future, without providing further clarification.

His silence has intensified speculation over the leadership of the opposition bloc, as questions continue to arise about who will assume the role.

Decision expected to be made soon

Leaders within the opposition coalition have offered varying views on the matter, reflecting the ongoing uncertainty.

Pendang MP Datuk Awang Hashim said that although Perikatan Nasional had already finalised its new chairman, other leadership positions, including the Opposition Leader role, would be addressed later.

Meanwhile, Bersatu deputy president Datuk Radzi Jidin urged patience and advised the media to wait for an official decision.

Support remains among opposition MPs

Former Bersatu information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan expressed his personal hope that Hamzah would remain in the position.

He said the decision should ultimately be made by opposition MPs themselves.

“I believe the decision on the Opposition Leader should come from the MPs.

“I am confident the new PN chairman will make the best decision,” he said.

Wan Saiful added that PAS had previously nominated Hamzah for the role, suggesting there could be continuity.

He also claimed that a group of opposition MPs aligned with Hamzah would continue supporting him.

Wan Saiful expressed hope that the matter would be resolved soon to avoid prolonged uncertainty.

The situation continues to draw attention as political observers await clarity on the future leadership of Malaysia’s opposition bloc.
