DBKL intensifies enforcement, confiscates goods from illegal vendors at Dataran Merdeka to protect city image
PETALING JAYA, Feb 18 — Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has taken firm enforcement action by confiscating goods belonging to unlicensed vendors operating at Dataran Merdeka as part of efforts to protect the historic site.
The action followed viral social media reports highlighting beverage vendors operating along pedestrian walkways near the Sultan Abdul Samad Building.
The activity had raised public concern about the preservation of the area.
DBKL stated that the location is a designated no-trading zone to safeguard its heritage value, cleanliness, and visual appeal.
The authority emphasised that Dataran Merdeka is one of the nation’s most important landmarks and a symbol of national pride.
As such, unauthorised trading activities are not allowed.
DBKL said the confiscation operation forms part of ongoing enforcement efforts.
The authority also stressed that strict action will continue against those who violate regulations.
This is to ensure the area remains orderly and comfortable for visitors.
At the same time, DBKL urged the public not to support illegal vendors.
The authority said public cooperation is essential to prevent such activities.
DBKL also assured that monitoring and enforcement would continue.
This is to ensure the historic site remains well preserved.
The move reflects DBKL’s commitment to maintaining Kuala Lumpur’s reputation as a clean and organised city.
