Alvin Chong Chean Wah stays in Kuala Lumpur for Chinese New Year as flight costs remain high
PETALING JAYA, Feb 17 — Malaysian singer and actor Alvin Chong revealed that he has not returned to his hometown in Penang to celebrate Chinese New Year for the past three years due to expensive flight tickets during the festive period.
The 34-year-old said he once again spent the celebration alone in Kuala Lumpur this year, citing rising travel costs as the main reason behind his decision.
Despite not being physically present, Alvin said he continues to support his family by sending them money during the festive season.
“I didn’t go back this year and celebrated in Kuala Lumpur, but I still send money to my family,” he said.
He explained that ticket prices tend to increase significantly during major holidays, making it less practical for him to travel at that time.
Instead, he usually schedules his visit a few weeks after the celebration when travel conditions are more manageable and his work commitments allow.
Alvin added that his family understands his situation and has accepted his decision.
Speaking about celebrating alone, he said he keeps things simple and does not make special preparations, focusing only on maintaining a clean and comfortable home environment.
He also said buying new clothes is not a priority, as he prefers wearing existing outfits that are still in good condition.
