Armada Leader Says Bersatu Divisions Have No Authority to Declare Dissolution
GEORGE TOWN, Feb 17 — Division committees within Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) cannot declare their own dissolution, as such authority lies solely with the party’s Supreme Leadership Council, according to Armada information chief Harris Idaham Abdul Rashid.
He said the party constitution does not allow division-level leaders to make decisions on dissolving their respective branches, stressing that only the central leadership can determine such matters.
His statement follows recent announcements by several divisions claiming to have dissolved their committees.
Central leadership holds exclusive authority
Harris said only the Supreme Leadership Council, led by the party president, has the power to decide on the status of party divisions.
He added that state liaison committees also lack the authority to confirm or declare dissolutions.
The same rule applies to all party wings.
He stressed that division-level announcements are not official party decisions.
Such matters must be handled through proper party channels.
Resignations do not mean organisational dissolution
Harris noted that members have the right to resign or leave the party.
He said this right is protected under the Federal Constitution.
However, he stressed that resignations do not equate to dissolving a division.
Official dissolution requires approval from the central leadership.
He emphasised the difference between personal actions and organisational decisions.
Media urged to verify information with party headquarters
Harris called on media organisations to confirm information with the party secretary-general before reporting on dissolution claims.
He said this is necessary to ensure accurate reporting.
Only official statements should be treated as valid.
He warned against spreading unverified claims.
Recent division announcements sparked controversy
Several Bersatu divisions in Penang recently announced their dissolution.
Some leaders and members also resigned.
These developments raised questions about the legitimacy of the claims.
Harris reiterated that only the Supreme Leadership Council can make official decisions.
