Anwar: Criticism Is Allowed, but National Security Threats Will Face Maximum Action

HULU KELANG: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed that Malaysians are free to express views and criticisms, but warned that any act threatening national security will be met with the strongest possible action.

Anwar, who is also president of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), said he had issued firm instructions on this matter during a recent Cabinet meeting.

“People are free to give opinions and criticisms. This is a free country. But if anyone threatens national security or attempts to undermine stability, I will not hesitate to take maximum action,” he said.

He was speaking at the Selangor PKR Convention here, drawing loud applause from party delegates.

Call to Respect the Rule of Law

Anwar urged the public not to incite hatred or take the law into their own hands.

“No one should act as a judge or law enforcer. If anyone crosses the line, firm action will be taken,” he said.

He stressed that all grievances must be addressed through proper legal channels.

Places of Worship Must Follow Regulations

The Prime Minister also touched on the issue of unapproved religious buildings, stressing that all places of worship — including mosques, suraus, temples, and churches — must comply with existing regulations.

He said adherence to the law is crucial for maintaining social harmony in Malaysia’s multiracial society.

Cabinet Prioritises People’s Issues

Anwar said Cabinet meetings consistently focus on resolving key national concerns, especially socio-economic issues such as employment and education.

“This government takes every effort to discuss and resolve problems affecting the people,” he added.

PKR’s Multiracial Vision

He also reiterated PKR’s commitment to multiracial politics, noting that the party continues to champion the rights of all communities.

“I want every Malaysian to know that this party will defend their rights,” he said.

Meanwhile, Selangor Menteri Besar and PKR leader Amirudin Shari officiated the launch of the Selangor PKR mascot at the convention.
