Over 100 Countries Join New Global Sumud Flotilla Mission to Gaza

TUNIS: International activists under the Global Sumud Flotilla network are preparing to launch a major humanitarian mission to the Gaza Strip in March, involving thousands of participants from more than 100 countries.

Scheduled for March 29, the mission is described as one of the largest coordinated humanitarian efforts ever organised in support of Palestinians living under restrictions imposed by Israel.

Brazilian activist Thiago Avila said the maritime convoy will depart from several ports, including Barcelona, Tunis, and locations in Italy.

“We will sail simultaneously from multiple countries to demonstrate global solidarity with Gaza,” he told Agence France-Presse.

Land Convoy Also Planned

In addition to the sea mission, organisers are planning a land convoy to Gaza on the same date, although details regarding routes and starting points have yet to be disclosed.

The initiative aims to widen international pressure for easier humanitarian access into the territory.

Previous Interception by Israeli Authorities

Last year, a similar flotilla attempted to deliver aid by sea in October but was intercepted by Israeli authorities. Participants were detained and later deported.

Israel continues to tightly control Gaza’s borders, subjecting all incoming aid to strict inspections.

Peaceful Protest Against Humanitarian Crisis

Activists described the mission as a non-violent response to what they see as severe humanitarian suffering in Gaza, including food shortages and widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure.

They believe the large-scale international participation will help draw global attention and increase diplomatic pressure to ease the blockade.
