CIMB Seri-Ibu Kraf Week Strengthens Malaysia’s Creative Industry and Empowers Local SMEs

KUALA LUMPUR — CIMB Group Holdings Berhad has reinforced its commitment to Malaysia’s creative economy with the launch of the CIMB Seri-Ibu Kraf Week, a strategic initiative designed to strengthen the local handicraft industry and enhance the competitiveness of small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

The programme serves as an integrated development platform that combines structured learning, business networking, market exposure and financial support to help creative entrepreneurs grow sustainably in an increasingly competitive environment.

The launch was officiated by Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, a prominent advocate for Malaysian arts, culture and heritage preservation.

CIMB Group Chief Executive Officer Novan Amirudin said the initiative reflects the bank’s long-term commitment to building a resilient and inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem.

He noted that supporting artisans and creative businesses not only strengthens commercial sustainability but also preserves traditional craftsmanship for future generations.

“Through Seri-Ibu Kraf Week, we provide entrepreneurs with access to training, strategic partnerships and market opportunities that enhance their long-term growth potential,” he said.

The programme features business-matching sessions, the CIMB Saudagar initiative, and specialised workshops on financial management, branding and digital transformation.

Participants are also introduced to e-commerce tools and artificial intelligence solutions to improve productivity and expand regional and global market reach.

More than 300 SMEs from sectors such as food and beverage, fashion, handicrafts, property management and creative services are expected to participate.

Entrepreneurs share practical insights on cash flow management, cost control, business scaling and export readiness.

To support business expansion, Yayasan Hasanah introduced targeted grant schemes, while CIMB’s advisory panels offered professional guidance on financing, compliance and risk management.

Interactive sessions, including cake-making workshops by the Cake Piknik community, further enriched the learning experience through hands-on engagement.

Over 30 fashion and craft boutiques are participating in the month-long showcase, presenting works in textiles, wood, glass, metal and ceramics, alongside festive collections by Malaysian designers.

Participating brands include Toko Art, Earth Heir, Mah Meri Cultural Village, Terengganu Songket and other established creative enterprises.

CIMB also partnered with Sime Darby Property to support the Seri-Ibu Kraf Awards, recognising excellence in textiles, metalwork, ceramics and artistic innovation.

Additional honours include the Innovation Award, People’s Choice Award and the Seri-Ibu Special Award, personally selected by the Tengku Ampuan of Pahang.

Beyond commercial objectives, the initiative aligns with CIMB’s “Kita Bagi Jadi” social movement, which promotes resilience, creativity and positive values among Malaysian entrepreneurs.

With its comprehensive approach to talent development, funding access and market integration, the CIMB Seri-Ibu Kraf Week is expected to play a vital role in strengthening Malaysia’s creative ecosystem and positioning local SMEs for sustainable long-term growth.
