GPS focused on helping the people, Sarawak PRN date not a priority – Fadillah

KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will continue to focus on efforts to help and serve the people regardless of the date of the next Sarawak State Election, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

Fadillah, who is also the GPS Chief Whip, said the coalition does not work solely when facing elections, but rather serves the people at all times.

“We see the election as a way of returning power to the people to evaluate the level of our work over the years,” he told reporters after attending a ceremony to present Chinese New Year contributions to the elderly and the disabled (OKU) here today.

He was asked to comment on a recent statement by GPS Secretary-General Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, who reportedly said Sarawak is expected to hold a state election this year.

Fadillah said the Sarawak State Election could be held at any time, including this year, because the term of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly will end in Feb 2027.
The 12th Sarawak State Election will be held on 18 Dec 2021.
