KUALA LUMPUR: A handful of Chinese voters are starting to ‘miss’ the era of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s administration. Puteri Wangsa State Assemblyman (ADUN), Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz, believes that the statement is a warning to government leaders, especially those from DAP.
The MUDA Deputy President confirmed that the statement was often mentioned in meetings with the Chinese community through mobile counter sessions.
“Many (Chinese) uncles and aunts talk to me about missing the Najib era, that’s a sign that the Chinese are very angry with the government that they once longed for to bring change,” he said during an audio session on The Tiger Show on Thursday.
He stressed that it is also a frightening sign when the public does not care to return to the era of Najib’s administration despite being serving a prison sentence since July 28, 2020.
The sixth Prime Minister was jailed on charges of corruption and money laundering involving the embezzlement of SRC International Sdn Bhd funds totaling RM42 million.
He added that the results of the Sabah State Election (PRN) last year also became a symbol of the Chinese community’s rejection of DAP when it did not win any seats from the eight state assemblies contested.
“I have met many Chinese people in my area who said, ‘DAP should be careful, we can do the same thing (in Sabah) near the Peninsular,'” he said.
Amira also urged DAP leaders to implement changes rather than evaluating their role in the MADANI Government if no reforms are carried out within six months of this year.
“Don’t put the burden on one party alone, it’s not fair to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. So every party, whether DAP, Amanah, PKR, that holds the ministry must carry out the reform,” he added.
