First batch of Proton e.MAS 5 deliveries reveals the entry-level Prime variant in detail
Customer deliveries of the Proton e.MAS 5 have officially begun, signalling the next phase of Proton’s electric vehicle rollout in Malaysia. Evidence of the first batch arriving surfaced through several videos and posts shared by Proton e.MAS dealerships. Although Proton has already confirmed future local assembly in Tanjung Malim, the vehicles currently being delivered remain fully imported CBU units from China, and the exact figure for the initial shipment has not been announced.
This delivery phase also offers the first real-world look at the Proton e.MAS 5 Prime, the base variant that had not been publicly displayed before, unlike the Premium model which dominated preview sessions. Despite sharing the same design language, the Prime variant differs through body-coloured roof and pillars, simpler 15-inch steel wheels, and halogen headlights that replace the Premium’s LED setup. The overall approach is clearly more economical, focusing on practicality without excessive premium features.
Inside, the Prime variant adopts a simpler specification list, with fewer speakers, no powered tailgate, no 360-degree camera and a reduced selection of advanced driver assistance functions. In terms of performance, it operates using a 58kW electric motor delivering 130Nm paired with a 30.12kWh battery capable of achieving up to 225km WLTP driving range, positioning it as a suitable daily urban EV.
Charging capability remains practical with 6.6kW AC support, while DC fast charging is capped at 53kW compared to the Premium’s 71kW. Unsurprisingly, the Prime variant is positioned with a much lower price tag at RM56,800, whereas the Premium model is priced at RM69,800 inclusive of the launch rebate currently offered.
