KKM to Digitalize 956 Dental Clinics by 2027, Targets Greater Efficiency and Care
GEORGE TOWN, Nov 6 — The Ministry of Health (KKM) has committed to expanding the Dental Information System (DIS) with the goal of digitalizing 956 dental clinics by 2027, aiming to improve both the quality and accessibility of dental services across Malaysia.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad revealed that 71 dental clinics have already adopted the system, with plans for widespread digital integration. He stressed that this effort is part of Malaysia’s broader strategy to enhance healthcare efficiency and patient-centered care through advanced technologies.
“As we advance into the era of artificial intelligence (AI), we need to recognize that digitalization is not just about adopting new systems but about changing the way we operate to ensure faster, more accurate, and patient-centric care,” Dzulkefly said at the launch of Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park 2.
The DIS serves as an essential platform for accessing comprehensive dental data, including clinical information, resources, and practitioner surveys. This system is expected to streamline processes and improve dental service delivery nationwide.
Dzulkefly also emphasized that oral health is integral to overall health and well-being, as diseases like tooth decay and gum disease are increasingly linked to chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.
The Ministry will continue to focus on oral health education and prevention programs, including initiatives like the School Dental Health Program and mobile dental clinics, to improve public awareness and early intervention.
