Police arrest robbery suspect after two years on the run
PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a man who had been on the run for nearly two years for his alleged involvement in a gang robbery at a condominium unit along Jalan Dua, Chan Sow Lin.
The suspect, believed to be in his late 20s, was apprehended on Friday following months of intelligence gathering and surveillance conducted by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (D9) of the Cheras District Police Headquarters (IPD).
Cheras district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud said the suspect was arrested at about noon by a roadside along Jalan Sungai Jelok in Kajang, Selangor.
He said investigators also seized a pair of jeans and a pair of shoes believed to have been worn by the suspect during the robbery, with the items expected to form part of the ongoing investigation.
“The suspect has been remanded for seven days, from July 11 until July 17, to facilitate further investigations into the case,” he said in a statement on Monday.
Mohd Rosdi said the arrest was the result of continuous intelligence operations and follow-up investigations carried out by the district’s D9 investigation team after the suspect allegedly evaded capture following the incident.
He added that investigators are continuing to examine the suspect’s role in the robbery and are determining whether he may have been involved in other criminal activities.
The case is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery, with police continuing efforts to complete the investigation and identify any additional individuals who may have been involved in the offence.
