Anwar Says PH’s Johor Campaign Focuses on Development and People’s Welfare

KULAI: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has defended Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) campaign strategy in the Johor state election, saying the coalition’s focus is on presenting development initiatives and policies that benefit the people rather than creating political confrontation.

Speaking during the Kita Genk MADANI Johor programme in Kulai, Anwar said the coalition’s presence throughout the election campaign is aimed at explaining its plans for Johor’s future while highlighting ongoing federal initiatives that support the state’s economic and social development.

He acknowledged that the Johor state government has contributed to serving the people but noted that many major development programmes implemented in the state have been supported through federal government allocations.

According to the Prime Minister, Johor continues to be among the states receiving the largest share of federal development funding, reflecting its strategic importance to the country’s economic growth.

He pointed to several major national projects currently underway in Johor, including the Rapid Transit System (RTS) linking Johor Bahru and Singapore, as well as the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), describing both initiatives as significant investments expected to generate long-term economic opportunities.

Anwar said these projects are part of the federal government’s broader efforts to strengthen infrastructure, attract investment and improve employment opportunities for the people of Johor.

The Prime Minister also encouraged voters to actively participate in the upcoming Johor state election, stressing that every vote plays an important role in determining the state’s future direction.

He appealed particularly to Johoreans who are currently working or studying outside the state, including those in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, to return home to cast their ballots on polling day.

Anwar described voting as an important civic responsibility and urged eligible voters not to miss the opportunity to participate in the democratic process.

The 16th Johor state election will see 172 candidates contesting all 56 State Legislative Assembly seats. Pakatan Harapan is fielding candidates in every constituency, with polling scheduled for 11 July, while early voting will take place on 7 July.

As campaigning continues ahead of polling day, political parties are intensifying efforts to present their respective policies and development agendas to voters, with economic growth, infrastructure development and public welfare remaining among the key issues throughout the campaign period.
