PCM Rebrands as Parti Wawasan Negara, Hamzah Says Move Strengthens Perikatan Nasional
KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) has officially rebranded itself as Parti Wawasan Negara, a move that its de facto leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin described as a major step towards strengthening both the party and the broader Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.
The rebranding marks a new phase for the party as it seeks to expand its appeal across Malaysia’s diverse communities while contributing to PN’s ambition of positioning itself as a credible and inclusive coalition ready to govern.
Hamzah said the decision to adopt the new name was unanimously approved by delegates during a special party meeting held on June 20, reflecting a shared vision to reposition the party for the country’s evolving political landscape.
“This decision marks a new chapter not only for Wawasan Negara, but also for efforts to strengthen Perikatan Nasional as a coalition that is increasingly trusted by the people to lead Malaysia.
“The inclusion of Wawasan Negara also adds value to Perikatan Nasional’s existing strengths, particularly in advancing an agenda of change founded on competence, integrity and stability,” he said in a statement today.
Hamzah, who also serves as PN secretary-general, said the newly branded party intends to embrace Malaysia’s multicultural identity and become a platform that represents the aspirations of citizens from different backgrounds.
He said Parti Wawasan Negara would champion cooperation, moderation and national interests while working alongside other PN component parties to build a more stable and inclusive political environment.
“We are here to serve as a bridge connecting more Malaysians, broadening support and further strengthening Perikatan Nasional’s position as an inclusive, stable coalition that is ready to govern,” he said.
According to Hamzah, the name change is not merely cosmetic but reflects the party’s broader aspiration to play a more significant role in shaping Malaysia’s future.
He said Malaysia’s political landscape requires parties that can transcend racial and regional boundaries while offering practical solutions to issues affecting ordinary citizens.
The party, he added, will continue to uphold principles of good governance, integrity and accountability as key pillars of its political agenda.
The announcement came a day after Perikatan Nasional formally accepted applications from both PCM and Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) to join the coalition.
PN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said the coalition’s supreme council approved both applications during a meeting held the previous night, paving the way for the two parties to formally become part of the alliance.
Political observers have described the developments as a strategic move that could broaden PN’s support base and strengthen its position ahead of future electoral contests.
The inclusion of Parti Wawasan Negara is also expected to enhance PN’s image as a coalition seeking to attract support from a wider spectrum of Malaysians, particularly younger voters and urban communities.
For Hamzah, however, the transformation represents something more profound than a simple rebranding exercise.
He said the party is embarking on a long-term mission to contribute towards building a stronger and more united Malaysia.
“Our struggle is not just about changing a name. It is about carrying a bigger vision for the nation and ensuring that Malaysia moves forward with stability, unity and confidence,” he said.
The emergence of Parti Wawasan Negara, coupled with its entry into PN, is likely to add a new dimension to the country’s political landscape as parties continue to reposition themselves in response to shifting public expectations and changing political realities.
