PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a 31-year-old man for allegedly assaulting and threatening another individual with an object resembling a pistol at a restaurant in Desa Sri Puteri, Cheras, earlier this month.
The suspect was detained in Taman Desa Bakti on June 11, two days after the incident was reported to have taken place on June 9.
Cheras district police chief Mohd Rosdi Daud said the arrest was made following investigations launched after police received a report regarding the incident.
According to him, the incident occurred at around 11.05am when the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim before threatening him with an object resembling a firearm.
“Preliminary investigations found that the 31-year-old suspect allegedly assaulted and threatened the complainant by showing an object that resembled a pistol,” he said in a statement today.
He did not disclose the motive behind the altercation or the relationship between the suspect and the victim, but confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the case.
Police are currently gathering evidence and recording statements to complete the investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 8 of the Firearms Act 1960.
If convicted, the suspect could face penalties as provided under Malaysian law.
