Fattah Amin and Amira Othman Deny Links to Viral Indonesian Maid Abuse Case

PETALING JAYA: Celebrity couple Fattah Amin and Amira Othman have strongly denied allegations linking them to a viral video involving the abuse of an Indonesian domestic worker.

In an official statement issued through their legal representatives, the couple stressed that they were not the individuals shown in the video and had no connection whatsoever to the alleged incident.

According to the lawyers, the misinformation appears to have originated from manipulated images that were circulated online together with misleading captions aimed at creating the impression that the couple was associated with those allegedly involved.

“Our clients wish to state unequivocally that they are not the individuals featured in the video and have absolutely no involvement in the incident, either directly or indirectly.

“Irresponsible parties have edited an original photograph of our clients, taken with one of the couples featured in the viral clip at a wedding event, and attached defamatory captions that mislead the public,” the statement read.

The legal team also claimed that artificial intelligence (AI) technology had been used to manipulate certain images, creating the false impression that Fattah and Amira shared a close relationship with the individuals allegedly involved in the case.

They stressed that the allegations circulating online are entirely baseless and have caused harm to the couple’s reputation as well as concerns over their personal safety.

“We have received clear instructions from our clients to reject all defamatory accusations and malicious claims.

“Our clients are not the individuals shown in the clip and have no involvement whatsoever in the alleged act of violence,” the lawyers added.

Meanwhile, Fattah addressed the issue through his social media account, expressing disappointment over what he described as excessive speculation and false accusations.

He urged the public to stop spreading or engaging with baseless rumours that could tarnish their image and mislead others.

“In this blessed month of Muharram, my wife and I have taken note of several viral posts containing false allegations and defamatory statements against us.

“We sincerely hope everyone will stop participating in or spreading these baseless accusations,” he said.

According to the lawyers, the misinformation has spread beyond Malaysia and attracted attention from social media users in neighbouring countries, intensifying concerns over the couple’s safety and wellbeing.

As a result, they warned that legal action would be taken against any party that continues to publish, share or circulate false information relating to the matter.

The legal team also urged individuals who had uploaded defamatory content to remove the posts immediately to avoid facing legal proceedings under existing laws.
