Iqie Insomniacks Dismisses Romance Rumours, Says Angel Is Only a Close Friend
PETALING JAYA, June 1 — Syed Mir Iqbal, the lead vocalist of Malaysian band Insomniacks, has addressed speculation surrounding his relationship with Angel of Dolla, insisting that the two are nothing more than longtime friends.
The singer said their close friendship has existed for years and should not be interpreted as evidence of a romantic relationship despite growing speculation among fans.
According to Iqie, the interactions that often attract attention on social media are simply a reflection of a genuine friendship that has developed over time.
Speaking during a media session for the upcoming Latihan Pestapora Malaysia 2026 music festival, he stressed that there was nothing unusual about their relationship.
“We’ve known each other for a long time and we remain good friends. That’s all,” he said when asked about the rumours.
The issue has become a popular topic among fans after both artists frequently appeared together in social media posts and online content, prompting speculation that they might be more than friends.
Their visible chemistry and friendly interactions led some supporters to wonder whether a romantic relationship was developing behind the scenes.
However, Iqie chose not to elaborate further and instead reaffirmed that their bond remains strictly platonic.
He also expressed appreciation for the support shown by fans while gently reminding the public not to read too much into their friendship.
“Thank you for the support, but we’re just friends,” he said.
The singer’s comments are expected to put an end to recent speculation that has circulated among followers of both artists.
Relationships between musicians and entertainers often attract public interest, particularly when they frequently collaborate or appear together in public and on social media platforms.
Nevertheless, Iqie emphasised that friendship should not automatically be interpreted as a romantic connection.
Aside from addressing the rumours, the vocalist also spoke about Insomniacks’ upcoming participation in the Latihan Pestapora Malaysia 2026 music festival.
He described the event as an exciting milestone for the group, marking their first involvement in a programme associated with the popular Pestapora music brand.
According to Iqie, the band hopes the opportunity will help strengthen its presence beyond Malaysia and create new opportunities in neighbouring markets.
Indonesia remains one of the key markets the group hopes to enter, following efforts over the past year to introduce its music to audiences there.
The singer expressed optimism that participating in the festival could lead to future invitations to perform in Indonesia and expand the band’s regional reach.
As Insomniacks continues to build momentum within the music industry, the group sees international exposure as an important step in its long-term growth strategy.
With a growing fanbase and increasing performance opportunities, the band remains focused on broadening its influence while continuing to develop its musical career across Southeast Asia.
