Amir Hamzah to Meet Sultan of Pahang Over Federal Allocation Issue This Week

Amir Hamzah Azizan is expected to have an audience with Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah this week to clarify issues related to federal government allocations to the state of Pahang.

The minister said the meeting is intended to ensure all parties clearly understand the actual position regarding assistance and allocations that have already been channelled by the federal government to the state.

According to Amir Hamzah, discussions will also be held with the Pahang state government as part of efforts to provide a more comprehensive explanation on the matter.

“I will seek an audience with the Sultan of Pahang and will also hold discussions with the Pahang state government to clarify this issue. I believe there is no problem. This is merely to ensure that all parties understand what has been provided and the allocations that have been prepared,” he told reporters.

He spoke after officiating the handover ceremony of an additional preschool block for the Integrated Special Education Programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan Tan Sri Awang Had Salleh.

The issue surrounding federal allocations to Pahang surfaced after Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah questioned the matter during the opening ceremony of the First Meeting of the Fifth Term of the 15th Pahang State Legislative Assembly earlier this month.

Following the royal remarks, Anwar Ibrahim stated that he would instruct Amir Hamzah to prepare a detailed explanation regarding federal allocations to Pahang for presentation to the Crown Prince.

The development has attracted national attention as it touches on the broader relationship between the federal administration and state governments, particularly in matters involving development funding and fiscal distribution.

Amir Hamzah stressed that the federal government remains committed to ensuring that allocations to all states are distributed according to agreed constitutional provisions and actual development needs.

He added that the government continuously seeks to increase allocations annually, especially for projects deemed critical and strategically important for national and regional development.

According to the minister, such an approach is necessary to ensure balanced growth across all states regardless of political background or administrative differences.

He also noted that federal allocations should be viewed within the context of the government’s broader responsibility to safeguard public welfare and ensure that development initiatives continue smoothly nationwide.

Issues concerning federal funding distribution have long been a recurring topic in Malaysian politics, particularly when they involve major infrastructure projects and socio-economic development programmes.

Pahang remains one of the key states receiving federal support for various strategic sectors including infrastructure, education, transportation and rural development through collaboration between state and federal authorities.

Political observers view Amir Hamzah’s planned audience with the Sultan of Pahang as a diplomatic and constructive move aimed at clarifying the actual financial position while helping to avoid misunderstandings between stakeholders.

The move is also seen as reflecting the federal government’s willingness to maintain transparency and open communication regarding public finance management and state allocation policies.
