ICW Borneo 2026 Set To Drive Transformation Of Sabah’s Construction Industry

KUALA LUMPUR: International Construction Week Borneo 2026 (ICW Borneo 2026) is expected to become an important platform for strengthening construction industry collaboration while accelerating sustainable development transformation in Sabah and the wider Borneo region.

Sabah Deputy Chief Minister II Masidi Manjun said the event comes at a crucial time as Sabah implements the Sabah Maju Jaya 2.0 Roadmap for the 2026 to 2030 period.

According to him, the development plan focuses on strengthening the state economy, improving productivity and creating long-term value for the wellbeing of the people.

He said the construction sector remains one of the key pillars in driving Sabah’s transformation agenda through more systematic, efficient and transparent project implementation.

“Our priority is to ensure every project is implemented effectively and delivers long-lasting benefits to both society and the state economy,” he said.

ICW Borneo 2026 is organised by the Ministry of Works Malaysia (KKR) together with the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB) and Qube Integrated Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., continuing efforts to strengthen inclusive development within the construction industry across Borneo.

Meanwhile, Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi said the government has invested more than RM150 million to enhance Sabah’s construction sector through digitalisation, technical advancement and workforce training initiatives.

He said one of the key projects includes the establishment of a Building Information Modelling (BIM) training centre in Kota Kinabalu with an investment of RM2.25 million to help industry players master modern construction technologies.

According to him, BIM adoption can help improve productivity and accelerate project delivery.

In addition, the Malaysian Public Works Laboratory Sabah has been upgraded through an investment of RM19.4 million to provide international-standard material testing and technical services for the local industry.

Alexander Nanta said the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia has also developed the eco-campus of Akademi Binaan Malaysia in Beringgis, Papar with an investment of RM130.6 million, which is expected to become one of the country’s most advanced construction training centres.

He added that since 2001, ABM Sabah has trained more than 195,000 workers, helping to expand employment opportunities within the construction sector.

ICW Borneo 2026 will also feature the Construction Sustainability Summit 2026 focusing on sustainable development, ESG adoption and low-carbon construction technologies.

Various forums, technical sessions and industry programmes are also planned, including discussions on contract risk management, BIM technology and construction workforce skills development.
