TNB Strengthens Malaysian Hockey Through RM25 Million Sponsorship For KHM
KUALA LUMPUR: Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has reinforced its commitment to Malaysian hockey by providing RM25 million in sponsorship to the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (KHM) for the 2026 to 2030 period.
Under the new agreement, KHM will receive RM5 million annually to expand various hockey development programmes including grassroots initiatives, youth player training and preparations for the national squad.
KHM president Subahan Kamal said the sponsorship would provide a major boost to efforts aimed at strengthening Malaysia’s hockey performance on the international stage.
According to him, the long-term collaboration with TNB reflects the company’s continued support for the development of hockey in the country.
“Alhamdulillah, this sponsorship is extremely meaningful to KHM and we will ensure the funds are utilised in the best possible way to improve the standard of Malaysian hockey,” he said after the Memorandum of Agreement signing ceremony between TNB and KHM.
The ceremony was also attended by Youth and Sports Minister Mohammed Taufiq Johari.
Subahan said the funding would help KHM further strengthen its player development structure while enhancing preparations for major international tournaments.
Meanwhile, TNB president and chief executive officer Shamsul Ahmad said the company has always believed sports can serve as an important platform for shaping discipline, teamwork and character among the younger generation.
He said support for hockey goes beyond corporate sponsorship and represents a long-term investment in youth development and the future of Malaysian sports.
According to him, since the partnership between TNB and KHM began in 2006, more than RM60 million has been channelled towards hockey development including domestic leagues, major tournaments and youth player programmes.
He added that TNB would continue playing an active role in helping to build a more sustainable and competitive hockey ecosystem in the future.
