Azam Baki Bids Farewell To MACC After 42 Years In Public Service

KUALA LUMPUR: Azam Baki officially ended his tenure as chief commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today after more than four decades of service in the public sector.

In his farewell speech, he urged all MACC personnel to continue giving their full support to the incoming leadership to ensure the organisation remains strong and relevant.

According to Azam, he merely continued the legacy established by previous leaders for the benefit of the country and its people.

“This organisation must continue to remain relevant as envisioned by earlier leadership. I was only continuing the trust and legacy that had already been built,” he said.

He also expressed appreciation to MACC officers and staff members who attended the farewell ceremony held in conjunction with his retirement at the age of 63.

Azam said he was deeply touched by the support shown throughout his career, including during difficult periods while leading the national anti-corruption agency.

He began his career with the Anti-Corruption Agency (BPR) before continuing under the MACC, describing his 42-year journey as one filled with valuable experiences and challenges.

When speaking about his family, Azam became emotional and described them as his strongest pillar of support throughout his years in service.

“My family are my strongest supporters,” he said, adding that his loved ones had also endured hardships they should never have had to face.

Azam also expressed gratitude to members of the media for their cooperation and support during his leadership of the MACC.

He said the achievements accomplished during his six-year tenure were not the result of individual leadership alone, but the collective efforts of the entire organisation.

According to him, the esprit de corps among MACC officers played a major role in helping the organisation overcome challenges and adapt to the evolving crime landscape.

In his closing remarks, Azam also apologised for any shortcomings throughout his administration.

“I apologise for any weaknesses and shortcomings in managing and administering this organisation,” he said.
