Police Hunt for Lorry Driver After Fatal Hit-and-Run in Seri Kembangan

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are searching for a lorry driver and witnesses to assist investigations into a hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 65-year-old man in Jalan Desa Serdang, Seri Kembangan, last Saturday.

According to a statement from the Kajang District Police Headquarters, the incident occurred at about 9pm and involved a white bonded lorry and a Honda Wave motorcycle ridden by the victim.

Initial investigations found that the lorry allegedly turned into a junction from the main road in a negligent manner while the victim was travelling from the opposite direction.

As a result, the motorcyclist was unable to avoid the vehicle and collided with the lorry before falling onto the roadway.

“The victim was found injured by members of the public before being rushed to Serdang Hospital for treatment,” the statement said today.

However, the victim was pronounced dead yesterday due to severe head injuries.

Police said closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage obtained from a nearby factory confirmed the collision, although the registration number of the lorry could not be identified.

Authorities are now actively tracking down the lorry driver to assist with further investigations into the case.

Members of the public with information regarding the incident have been urged to contact investigating officer Insp Mohd Raziman Rasid at 019-4565502.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death.

The incident has also raised concerns among road users regarding road safety and the irresponsible actions of drivers who flee accident scenes after collisions occur.
